Inclusion criteria
For a repository to be listed in OpenDOAR it must align with our inclusion criteria:
Open Access Content Requirements:
- Free Access: All materials must be accessible without payment to the user.
- No Barriers: Users should not need to register or log in to access the content.
- Full Content: The complete, unabridged version of the material must be available, not limited to abstracts, previews, or metadata records.
- Repositories may include some restricted content (e.g. embargoed materials or metadata-only entries). However, the site must include a minimum of five scholarly materials which would help demonstrate the repository's commitment to providing valuable academic content.
Accessibility:
- The site must be reliably accessible to users worldwide.
Content Types:
The site should feature downloadable and reusable academic outputs or resources, including:
- Journal articles, theses, dissertations, reports, books or book chapters, conference proceedings, and working papers.
- Reusable academic resources such as archival material, datasets, software, images, videos, or educational materials with sufficient metadata for reuse.
Exclusions:
- Must not be an electronic journal or portal containing an entity's portfolio of journals.
- Must not be aggregators that solely link to open-access content on external sites.
- Must not be a library catalogue or collection offering only locally accessible e-books.
